Rosemaling, Kurbit Stencils

Rosemaling or Rosemåling is Norwegian for “decorative painting”, and is the name of a form of decorative folk art that originated in the rural valleys of Norway. Rosemaling is a style of decorative painting on wood that uses stylized flower ornamentation, scrollwork, lining and geometric elements, often in flowing patterns.

Rosemaling is also common in Sweden, where it’s called kurbits.
