The Hindus and the Egyptians supplied most of the world’s cotton cloth up until the 19th century. In India, the floral or geometric designs were applied to the cotton cloth by means of wood-block printing. The colors they used were pure and intense, largely due to the use of native dyes, which each workman made for himself.
