Stenciled Kitchen Border: an Easy Kitchen Makeover to Suit Every Style!
Join us today as we create a Stenciled Kitchen Border! We at The Artful Stencil were thrilled to have been approached in recent months by Kelly Fenley, the author of the Home & Garden section of our local newspaper, The Register Guard. He requested an interview about our business and photos of a completed local stenciling project. After a lot of hard work, the completed article debuted online last week. We couldn’t happier! Here is a link to the article: “Stencil, paint, voila! Cheerful home art” (update: the article was published in 2018 and is no longer available on The Register Guard website).
Today, we want to share with you a simple tutorial for the stenciled kitchen border project featured in this article. This project is perfect for a rainy spring weekend. We decided to take on a brand new stenciling project for the newspaper article: a refresh of our kitchen with a beautifully stenciled border. We knew we would enjoy the finished results, and that the project would produce some beautiful photos for the newspaper.
You will find beautiful project photos below by Collin Andrew, photographer for The Register Guard, as well as some valuable stenciling tips. We hope you gain inspiration, and enjoy this tutorial on how to create a stenciled kitchen border. It sure is a joy to make something beautiful!
Our stencils are reusable, so you can enjoy using them again and again, for all kinds of projects. With our US shipping in only 5 days or so, you can order your stencils today and get rolling on your project in no time!
Choosing the Stencil and Paint Colors!
Simply choose a stencil that fits your home’s theme. Our Border Stencil Categories page is a treasure trove of beautiful designs to fit every home.
Choosing a stencil for our kitchen was pretty easy. Since spring is upon us in the beautiful pacific northwest, flowers have definitely been on our minds! We have seen yellow daffodils, multi-colored tulips, pink and white cherry blossoms, magnolia flowers, and so much more. Each bloom brings its own unique style and color.
Inspired by the changing season, we chose to adorn our kitchen with a lovely stylized floral design: our Art Nouveau Border 4 stencil. This timeless and graceful stencil is a joy to see every time we walk into our kitchen. It’s from our Art Nouveau Collection. A previous blog post featuring our Art Nouveau stencils showcased this new collection.
Repainting our kitchen has been long-overdue. Prior to stenciling, we repainted our kitchen ceiling a white shade with pink undertones and a light yellow shade on the strip of border where the stencil would be going. This extra step provided a blank canvas for stenciling, but is certainly not necessary to do.
Choosing paint colors for the stencil itself took some time, having a whole rainbow of colors to choose from! We knew we wanted to use an interior paint for a long-lasting result, so we visited our local paint store to get some swatches. After much deliberation, we found inspiration from the stencil image our artist, Joni Prittie, had already created for her beautiful stencil design. It featured a beautiful medium-toned pink for the flowers and a medium-toned green for the leaves.
