Easy gift tags for Christmas gifts and more!

Join us as we teach you how to stencil gift tags for Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, and more! Today’s gift tag project pairs nicely with our last project featuring a gift wrap stenciling project. Stenciling gift tags is even easier, and yields beautiful, Pinterest and Instagram-worthy results!

We created a motif stencil especially for today’s project: Christmas Gift Tag Motif 1 Stencil (only $14.95!). The stencil features 6 stencils that are the perfect size for gift tags. They are big enough for writing “To/From” on the back, and small enough that they don’t overpower the present you attach them to.

This new motif stencil is quite versatile. Two of the stencils, the Heart and Star, can be used for birthday gift tags! All 6 designs feature simple silhouettes that are easy to cut out with scissors.

We hope you gain inspiration from our projects, and try them out for yourself. Experience the joy of making something beautiful! Our stencils are reusable, so you can enjoy using them again and again, for all kinds of projects. And, speaking of versatility, these gift tags can even be used as simple Christmas tree ornaments!

And, check out these additional stencils that would also make great gift tags! All of our Small Motif Stencil Sets would be great. Our culinary stencils include small cupcake-sized stencils that would also double well as gift tags. If you are giving treat bags away during a Halloween party, our Halloween Motif 1 Stencil Set would be great, as would our Halloween Motif 2 Stencil Set.

We highly encourage creativity and artistic expression here at The Artful Stencil, and would love to see what you create! So, send in some project photos as part of your stencil review when you buy our stencils!

Stenciling Tips

  1. Use painter’s tape to secure the stencil to the card stock.
  2. After coating your stencil brush in paint, dab until it is nearly dry on a piece of paper towel. Using a nearly dry brush will keep paint from bleeding under the stencil.
  3. Stencil using a “pouncing” motion, up and down. This technique also helps keep paint from bleeding under the stencil, giving you crisp, clean lines.
  4. Allow the paint to dry before removing the stencil.

Please note: Stencils are easier to use when they’re clean! If you’re using the same stencil multiple times in a row, clean smaller openings with a toothpick. After you’re done using the stencil, soak it in warm soapy water for easier removal of dried-on paint.
